Drake releases some info about the Aaliyah project, and confirms that people “essential” to her career will be involved.
Canada’s MuchMusic caught up with Drake after the OVO Music Fest this past weekend, and he revealed some details regarding the upcoming Aaliyah project. Rumors have floated rampant around Aaliyah’s posthumous record, with people even suspecting that Drake was producing the album.
When talking about the single he leaked at the festival “Enough Said” which features Drake, the Canadian rapper said that he and Noah “40″ Shebib will be involved, and the album will have around 14 tracks, “It’s all off an Aaliyah project that me and 40 are ‘commanding’…to get 13-14 new Aaliyah songs, I mean everybody should be excited.”
Aaliyah’s family, and label, Blackground Records, which is owned by her uncle, were apparently behind Drizzy and 40 being involved, “The people around her, everybody from her family to her old management and label, was just like, if there’s anybody out that can do it right now, it’s me and 40.”
Recently, it was confirmed that Timbaland would be involved and producing a couple tracks off Aaliyah’s upcoming album. Drake makes reference to this saying the “essential” people in her career will be involved, “we’re gonna pull in some classic people, like anybody that used to work with Aaliyah, or that was essential in her career,” adding that the album should be out this year, “get a new Aaliyah album this year on top of everything.”
